At the end starts a trail that brings you to the most beautiful waterfall of the valley, through lush lower montane <strong>forest<\/strong>. The hike is not too easy and will take at least 3 hours. There are some nice trails in this lower region with beautiful fern-trees. The church is open on Tuesday every first and third week of each month, at 14.00 PM.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]\n<h5>Around <strong>San Gerardo de Dota<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>From <strong>San Gerardo<\/strong> towards San Jose there are some private forest reserves worth visiting, like Madre Selva or Finca Eddy Serrano. At km 50 you can turn left to the Los Santos region. Around the coffee towns of Santa Mar\u00eda de <strong>Dota<\/strong> and San Marcos de Tarraz\u00fa there are a number of tours to be made, like the coffee tour, fruit tour and canopy tour among others. We work together with Los Santos Tours to arrange daytrips for you.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2390&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]Following the Pan-American Highway for nine kilometers towards San Isidro, you can visit the Param\u00f3 vegetation of the Cerro the la Muerte. From here you can see spectacular sunrises and on a clear morning it is possible to see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<h5>Visiting protected areas and <strong>National Park<\/strong>s<\/h5>\n<p>There are a number of protected areas around <strong>Dantica<\/strong> that are worth visiting. Here is the driving time from <strong>Dantica<\/strong> to the main entrance of each <strong>Park<\/strong> or Reserve in a radius of 2,5 hours with a short description:<\/p>\n<h5>Los Santos <strong>Forest<\/strong> Reserve- 0 minutes<\/h5>\n<p>You are here actually inside the reserve, because <strong>Dantica<\/strong> and <strong>San Gerardo de Dota<\/strong> belong to it. It consists of Lower and Upper Montane <strong>Cloud Forest<\/strong> between 1.500 and 3.000 meters altitude.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2391&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]\n<h5><strong>Los Quetzales National Park<\/strong> &#8211; 20 minutes<\/h5>\n<p>This is <strong>Costa Rica<\/strong>\u00b4s newest <strong>National Park<\/strong>. 13 Kilometers towards San Isidro and 9 towards San Jos\u00e9 you wil lfind the entrances of this park with Upper Montane <strong>Cloud Forest<\/strong> and Param\u00f3 vegetation. The park ranger station is on the San Jos\u00e9 side.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2392&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]\n<h5>Lankester Botanical Gardens &#8211; 1,5 hours<\/h5>\n<p>These beautiful gardens give you an good idea of the flora in <strong>Costa Rica<\/strong> in a nutshell. Lankester works on the protection and reproduction of many endangered endemic species, that is why we placed it in the protected area section. They are especially known for their orchid collection.<\/p>\n<h5>Tapant\u00ed <strong>National Park<\/strong> &#8211; 2,5 horas<\/h5>\n<p>On the other side of the Panamerican Highway you are already in the Tapant\u00ed <strong>National Park<\/strong>, though the entrance of the <strong>Park<\/strong> is in Oros\u00ed. The forest consists of Medium to Upper Montane <strong>cloud forest<\/strong>, but much more humid than the <strong>los Quetzales National Park<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2393&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]\n<h5>Volc\u00e1n Iraz\u00fa <strong>National Park<\/strong> &#8211; 2 hours<\/h5>\n<p>The highest volcano is definitely worth a visit. You can see both oceans from its highest view point. The vegetation consists of dwarf forest and bare land with two craters.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_row_inner gap=&#8221;25&#8243;][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2395&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;left-to-right&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;25px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;right-to-left&#8221;]\n<h5>Guayabo National Monument- 2,5 hours<\/h5>\n<p>Here are <strong>Costa Rica<\/strong>\u00b4s largest and best known ruins, and especially its setting in lush forest makes it an interesting place to visit.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]\n<h5>Chirrip\u00f3 <strong>National Park<\/strong> &#8211; 2 hours<\/h5>\n<p>From <strong>San Gerardo<\/strong> de Rivas you have to walk up the mountain and this walk will take you at least 2-3 days. You will pass through Montane <strong>Cloud Forest<\/strong> into the spectacular Param\u00f3 with many small lagoons and beautiful views<\/p>\n<h5>Hacienda Bar\u00fa <strong>National<\/strong> Wildlife Refuge- 2 hours<\/h5>\n<p>This is a private reserve that is well worth visiting, especially because of its conservational emphasis, good bird and mammal watching and a large variety of tours and canopies.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2394&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;appear&#8221;]\n<h5>Marino Ballena <strong>National Park<\/strong> &#8211; 2,5 hours<\/h5>\n<p>The perfect place to see dolphins and whales, though the latter are rather seasonal.
